Each week Mark will help feature an adoptable critter of the week to help them find their new forever home faster from the Monadnock Humane Society on Route 10 in Swanzey.

Mark’s Country Critter of the Week is proudly powered by WW Building Supply!

This week’s Country Critter:

Comet
1.5-year-old female, brown tiger, domestic shorthair

Comet is a quiet, independent girl who prefers to experience the world on her own terms. Naturally reclusive, she’s happiest observing from a safe distance and taking in her surroundings rather than seeking hands-on affection. Comet would thrive as an indoor spirit cat, where she can feel secure while still having an important job to do—Comet has the instincts to be an excellent mouser and would take that role very seriously.
Comet may coexist well with another calm cat or a cat-savvy dog who respects boundaries. Once settled, Comet could also be a great indoor/outdoor companion when the weather is warmer, making her an ideal match for someone looking for a low-key, low-pressure feline presence who adds quiet companionship and purpose to the home. For more information on Comet, come visit her at the Monadnock Humane Society during our open hours, Thursday-Sunday from 11-3.

Parker (Barn/Spirit Cat)(FIV+)
5-year-old male, DSH Brown & White Tabby

Parker is an independent boy that wants to work for his bed and breakfast. He has slowly become content with being an indoor-only cat and lives successfully with other quieter felines. His ideal work environment would be a garage or shop where he can provide daily maintenance for pest control. He may even surprise his person in the future by seeking out some attention from those he knows.

Parker is FIV+, carrying a virus that attacks his immune system (similar to HIV in humans.) We want Parker to find a person who can keep an extra close eye on him, as Parker is more susceptible to picking up colds or other illnesses. However, FIV+ cats can live a normal life with regular monitoring from their humans. If you are interested in a new roommate that works for his lodgings, then Parker is the guy for you. Come meet him during our open hours, 11-3 Thursdays-Sunday.

Oreo

4-year-old neutered male, large mixed breed

Oreo is a 4-year-old male Dane mix who has been a joy in our care. Once he feels safe, his whole personality opens up and you’ll see a wiggly, silly side that’s full of charm and enthusiasm.

Oreo has good social skills with many dogs, and with a compatible dog and a thoughtful introduction, he can do very well.

He’s a rambunctious, energetic guy who thrives with plenty of enrichment and exercise. He’s curious about everything and loves having activities that keep his mind and body engaged.

If you’re looking for a sweet, sensitive companion who will reward your patience with loyalty and laughs, Oreo may be the one. He’s ready for someone who understands his needs and is excited to help him flourish in a loving home. Come meet him during our open hours, Thursday-Sunday from 11-3.

Poseidon, 9-year-old pitbull mix, Male

Poseidon is a 9-year-old male pitty mix with a heart as big as his spirit. This sweet boy has been through a lot, but through it all, he has remained joyful, affectionate, and deeply devoted to his people.

He does well with kids, making him a wonderful companion for a family looking for a gentle and loyal friend. Poseidon has lived successfully with a small dog for several years; however, in his current environment, he has shown some reactive behaviors toward other dogs, so we believe he would be happiest as the only dog in his new home. While he has no known history with cats, he has lived with rats and lizards without issue.

Poseidon can feel stressed when he visits the vet, so our team has been working with him to help make these visits easier and more positive for him.

Poseidon is looking for a calm, loving home where he can finally relax, feel secure, and receive all the love he deserves. Come by and meet him during our open hours this week, Friday through Sunday, 11am – 3pm!

BANDIT
5 1/2-year-old male, mixed breed

Bandit is a living, breathing squishmellow ready to be the perfect 90-pound lapdog you have always wanted. He is described as great on leash, walking right next to you as he sniffs the world with curious enthusiasm. Bandit is a busybody who thrives with enrichment and needs plenty of exercise to stay happy and fulfilled. He chooses his dog friends carefully and prefers a cat-free home–cats are weird, and some dogs are way too exciting! While he doesn’t have an extensive history with kids, he is a big boy who may do well with children who are a bit more sturdy! We would love for you to meet our wonderfully sweet, affectionate, and active pup! Come by during our open hours, Thursday-Sunday, 11a-3p.

Stu, 4.5 years & Ernie, 2.5 years

Male Guinea Pigs

Meet Ernie and his lively young sidekick, Stu—an adorable, rambunctious guinea pig duo who give off strong Carl and Russell vibes from Up! Originally obtained from Petco at different times, these two quickly bonded and have been inseparable ever since. Their previous family loved them but wanted them to have more time and attention than they could give. While still undersocialized and not yet comfortable being handled, with patience and gentle care, Ernie and his energetic buddy are sure to build trust and bring plenty of joy to their new home. If you think they’d make your home happier, come meet them during our open hours, Thursday-Sunday from 11a-3p.

The Monadnock Humane Society is located at 101 W. Swanzey Road (off Route 10) in Swanzey, NH. Visiting hours are Thursday through Sunday, 11am-3pm.  Click here to contact them
