KEENE, NH – The Monadnock Region will be under two Winter Weather Advisories this evening.
The National Weather Service issued a pair of advisories ahead of the snow, wind, and rain in the forecast.
The first goes into effect at 5:00 Tuesday afternoon with 2-5 inches of mixed precipitation expected in some areas. Locally WKBK Staff Meteorologist Pat Pagano is expecting about 1-2 inches. Along with a light glaze of ice, and winds as high as 45 miles per hour after the snow has fallen, according to the NWS.
That advisory remains in effect until 7:00 Wednesday morning.
The second will go into effect at 10:00 Tuesday night for southeast winds 20-30 miles per hour with gusts up to 55 mph expected. That remains in effect until 1:00 Wednesday afternoon.
The NWS says the gusty winds will blow unsecure objects around, and tree limbs could be blown down, resulting in some power outages. Wet snow accumulation will add weight to the trees as well, contributing to the possibility of outages.
With all that in mind, Eversource says they have crews on standby to respond to any outages quickly. Hundreds of line and tree crews will be prepositioned across the state ahead of the storm. The power company is reminding customers to prepare a storm kit with items such as flashlights, batteries, water, non-perishable food, medications, pet food, and other necessities, along with fully charged cell phones.
If you come across any downed power lines, stay clear of them and report them to 911, and report your outage to your power company.
Eversource spokesman William Hinkle will join WKBK at 8:10 Wednesday morning to provide a live update. Listen on AM 1290, FM 94.1 or click the listen live button at the top of the page.
