KEENE, NH – The lone democrat on New Hampshire’s Executive Council has announced plans to run for Governor.

In a news release Thursday District 2 Executive Councilor Cinde Warmington announced that she is officially running for Governor of New Hampshire to “to make New Hampshire a place where everyone is free to thrive.”

Warmington was first elected to her seat on the Executive Council in 2020. She won reelection in 2022 defeating sitting Republican State Senator Harold French by nearly 20 percent, winning more votes than anyone else on the Executive Council. District 2 represents 81 cities and towns across the state, many of them in the Monadnock Region. Other parts of the region are covered by district 5.

“New Hampshire is such a great state, but we can’t keep ignoring our challenges,” said Warmington in the release. “We’ve had enough extremist battles. It’s time to put people over politics.”

In her work in the Executive Council, Warmington has been an advocate for issues such as women’s health care, housing, and mental health and substance abuse support.

“Let’s kickstart our job training and housing construction – so our businesses can attract new workers and our young people can get a shot at the future. Let’s finally tackle the mental health crisis and the fentanyl crisis in a real way – so that families can get the help they need. And yes, let’s write Roe vs Wade into law and fund Planned Parenthood in New Hampshire.”

According to the release, Warmington has stood her ground on funding for Planned Parenthood, and her opposition to an abortion ban in the state. She also worked with New Hampshire’s federal delegation and secure $40 million to expand broadband infrastructure in rural parts of the state.

Warmington has over 100 current elected officials and other community members backing her bid for Governor. That includes locally Sheriff Eli Rivera of Keene, State Senator Donovan Fenton of Keene, Democratic Floor Leader Lucy Weber of Walpole, Assistant Democratic Floor Leader Lucius Parshall of Marlborough, State Representative Michael Abbott of Hinsdale, State Representative Daniel Eaton of Stoddard, State Representative Shaun Fillault of Keene, State Representative Peter Leishman of Peterborough, State Representative Jodi Newell of Keene, State Representative Bruce Tatro of Swanzey, State Representative Jonah Wheeler of Peterborough, and JoAnn Fenton of Keene.
