Police responded to the scene at the home on Plain Road shortly before 1:00 Wednesday afternoon for a reported shooting, and found David Lent, 47, and Tyler Gilbert, 12, dead of apparent gunshot wounds.

According to a news release from New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella, New Hampshire State Police Colonel Nathan Noyes, and Hinsdale Police Chief Charles Rataj, a pistol was found next to Lent, and a witness at the scene reported that Lent shot Gilbert before shooting himself.

Autopsies conducted Thursday by Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mitchell Weinberg determined that Lent’s cause of death was a single gunshot wound and his manner of death was suicide, and Gilbert’s cause of death was gunshot wounds and his manner of death is homicide.

Gilbert, a Vermont resident, was visiting Lent and his grandparents at the time of the incident.
