TROY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – The community will gather next week to honor a mother and son who were killed in Troy last week.
New Hampshire’s Attorney General’s office says that Trent Weston, 37, called police at his home located at 359 Monadnock Street in Troy and reported that he had shot his wife.
Police responded to the home and discovered a deceased adult female inside, identified as Brittany Weston, 37.
Trent Weston was later located on the I-95 Piscataqua River Bridge at the border of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine. Members of both the New Hampshire State Police and Maine State Police Departments attempted to negotiate with Trent before he raised a weapon and was fatally shot by police. His body then fell from the bridge and into the river where it was quickly recovered, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
As protocol dictates the officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Maine Attorney General’s Office. The one Maine, and two New Hampshire State Police Troopers have been placed on leave as the investigation continues.
Following the officer-involved shooting, authorities discovered a deceased male child inside Trent’s car at the scene. He boy was identified as Benson Weston, 8, the son of Trent and Brittany Weston.
The investigation is ongoing, but the NH AG’s office says that at this point all evidence indicates that Trent Weston was responsible for the deaths of both Brittany and Benson Weston.
An autopsy determined that the cause of Brittany’s death was multiple gunshot wounds to the head, and the manner of death was homicide. Benson’s cause of death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of his death was also ruled a homicide.
A candlelight vigil in remembrance of Brittany and Benson has been organized. It’s set for Thursday, September 12th from 6 – 8 pm in the Troy town common. Organizers called it “a night of remembrance, prayer, and music,” and said those who are attending can feel free to bring their own chairs.
