KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – After serving The Community Kitchen for more than a decade, including two years as its executive Director, Sarah Harpster is stepping down.

Barb Weisman, the organization’s director of development and communications, has been named interim executive director, according to a news release.

Weisman, who has been a dedicated advocate for food security, will guide the organization as the board of directors begins the search for a permanent replacement.

Harpster began her at The Community Kitchen as a gleaner 11 years ago, working to recover surplus food to serve those in need before moving into her leadership role in 2022. During her time at the helm, she helped strengthen partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, and donors. Her focus on food security and collaboration was instrumental in expanding the nonprofit’s services, which include providing weekly groceries through their pantry program and hot meals to the region’s residents.

Board chair Gina Burke praised Harpster’s efforts.

“Sarah’s dedication and efforts have greatly benefited our community,” she said in the release. “Her work has been vital in the development and growth of The Community Kitchen’s services, and we are thankful for all she has done.”

For years, The Community Kitchen has played a crucial role in combating food insecurity by distributing free grocery boxes and serving hot meals to individuals and families in need.
